Diagnosis

Internal Auditory Canal Stenosis

Findings

CT – Axial image shows bilateral internal auditory canal stenosis, measuring <2 mm in diameter.

Discussion

Internal auditory canal stenosis is associated with neurosensory hearing loss and failed cochlear stimulation implant because of cochlear nerve absence or hypoplasia; cochlear nerve abnormalities are present in 56% of patients with internal auditory canal stenosis. When this finding is encountered, high resolution MR imaging of the temporal bones is necessary.
