Diagnosis

Splenic Cyst

Findings

US – Peripheral simple splenic cyst, avascular on Doppler.

Discussion

Splenic cysts are characterized as true or false. True cysts are epithelial lined; false cysts are the result of trauma, infection or infarction. True cysts are congenital and related to infolding of peritoneal mesothelium, trapped mesothelial cells in splenic sulci or isolated lymphatic tissue. Differential diagnosis in this age group would include cystic hamartoma, hemangioma or lymphangioma.
