Diagnosis

Facial Teratoma

Clinical Notes

Pathology – Benign teratoma containing fat, cartilage and primitive teeth.

Findings

MR – Sequential axial fat-suppressed T2 images demonstrate a nasally directed finger-like projection from the left malar eminence. The subjacent maxilla appears uninvolved.

Discussion

Facial teratomas are rare but have been reported to involve the tonsils, palate, tongue, sinuses and orbit. Cutaneous germ cell tumors are usually in the form of dermoid cysts. This represents a very rare facial/cutaneous containing elements of all 3 germ cell layers.
