Cystic Dilation of Seminal Vesicles (Seminal Vesicle Cysts) associated with ADPKD.

Clinical Notes

Known autosomal dominant kidney disease.

US – Bilateral nephromegaly with numerous parenchymal cysts; seminal vesicles are dilated and contain cysts.

Seminal vesical cysts have been reported in a variety of conditions. Congenital cysts can be seen with renal agenesis/dysgenesis, ectopic ureteral insertions, and agenesis of the vas deferens. Acquired cystic dilation can be seen in prostatic hypertrophy, seminal vesical infection, and post-prostate surgery.

Cysts of the liver, pancreas, kidney, ovary, testicle, bladder, thyroid, lung, spleen, esophagus, uterus and brain have been described in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. Cyst formation may be related to hyperplasia of tubular epithelium leading to obstruction or defective tubular basement membranes.

Seminal vesical cysts are usually asymptomatic but can be associated with infertility.
